LAKE SUPERIOR SUNDAY is JULY 19th! Mark your calendars for a summer highlight at Gloria Dei, during which we worship God, celebrate the beauty of creation, and remember our calling as stewards of the earth. Pastor Karen Bockelman will preach for this special Sunday worship service at 10 a.m., and a potluck including fish from the grill after worship. Fish is caught on the Gloria Dei annual fishing trip on Lake Superior. Consider bringing food for the potluck from local sources - or just bring yourself there is plenty of food to share!

LAKE SUPERIOR FACTS Largest freshwater lake on Earth by surface area. So big it could hold all the other Great Lakes plus three more Lake Eries. Including islands, has 2,726 miles of shoreline. Is 1,332 feet deep at its deepest point. Average temperature is 40 degrees F. Contains 10% of the world’s fresh water.
12 WAYS YOU CAN PROTECT THE LAKE Create an energy efficient home Install water-saving devices. Never burn garbage. Try to reduce, reuse, recycle and repair. Take household hazardous materials to hazardous waste collections. Never pour oil or other used liquids into a storm drain. Put your lawn on a chemical-free diet. Inspect your boat and trailer and remove any plants and animals before leaving a boat access. Landscape with plants that are native to the region. Plant trees to capture carbon dioxide and prevent erosion. Use a rain barrel for gardening and washing the car. And most importantly, love Lake Superior!
