ELCA World Hunger Appeal

The World Hunger Appeal of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA, of which Gloria Dei is a member congregation), is a comprehensive and sustainable program that uses multiple strategies—relief, development, education, and advocacy—to address the root causes of hunger and poverty. ELCA World Hunger responds to neighbors around the corner and around the world. More information can be found at

Gifts above your regular offering marked “ELCA World Hunger” are welcome anytime during the year. But in March we have a special emphasis:

Have you ever noticed that Pastor David is 5 foot 10 inches tall? What would it look like if we as a congregation collected 70 inches of quarters during the month of March? If quarters have been mounting up around your home, “Pastor on a Stick” is ready to collect them. He will be waiting for you on Sunday mornings as we work to fill the coin tube with our quarters which in turn will help in our work toward relieving World Hunger. Watch for him at the top of the stairs in the Sanctuary each Sunday before Easter. Don't have quarters? Loose change (or dollars, too) will be turned into quarters by the "money changers" in the church. Remember: GOD'S MATH DOESN'T JUST ADD UP, IT MULTIPLIES !

Gloria Dei also participates in the annual CROP Walk in September. Walkers are sponsored by members and friends, and proceeds help the hungry through Church World Service. [picture]

Ruby’s Pantry – 3rd Thursday of the month

Gloria Dei was among the initial church sponsors of this food distribution program, which takes place on the third Thursday of the month at First United Methodist Church (the Coppertop Church) 230 East Skyline Parkway, Duluth.

As a community partner of Ruby’s Pantry, the goal of the program is to make food available to anyone who needs to stretch their food dollar. For a $15.00 donation (which is used to cover transportation, warehouse, and other expenses) you receive approximately 2 large boxes of food. Cash only, no checks or EBT cards are accepted. There is no “typical” food order and contents vary depending upon what food is available to Ruby’s Pantry at the time. You need to bring your own boxes (laundry baskets work very well). There are no income guidelines.

Volunteers are always needed to help repackage food, distribute food, carry food to vehicles, and clean-up. Clean-up is usually done by 8:00 p.m. Contact Sue Anderson for more information about volunteering, or show up between 3-5 p.m. that day.

Worship Schedule:
10:00 a.m. Sund
