| CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER~
Submitted by Pastor Carlson
Congregational
Prayer is listed in our calendar for every Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m.
Originally initiated by the team that attended the synod program Journey into Prayer with
Normajean Strommen, it is intended to remind all members to pray
regularly. Each Sunday, wherever you are, we invite you to pray. Your
prayer might be:
Reflective on Scripture
- look at the readings for this month; perhaps reread one from the morning or recall the sermon
- focus on a word or phrase from that passage that resonates with you; reflect on that word
- read the passage again: how does that word or phrase encourage you or challenge you?
- ask God to shape you according to God’s Word to you
Intercessory (prayer for others)
- pray for the sick, the homebound, the aged, the poor
- pray for the church, for the Council, for committees, for staff, for the Synod and ELCA
- pray for the world, for peace and justice, for the stewardship of creation
Contemplative (like Centering Prayer)
- “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).
- let go of concerns and thoughts of the day/week and rest for a time in God’s presence
- contact the church office if you would like to learn more about Centering Prayer
Another form of prayer
– like a thanksgiving or lament psalm, the Lord’s Prayer, or the
Magnificat. Prayer opens us up to God’s presence and God’s formation of
our lives. Whatever prayer form you decide to use this week, please
take time to pray and know that you are praying with other sisters and
brothers of Gloria Dei.
