Gloria Dei Prayer Shawl Ministry Program PRAYER SHAWLS - A prayer shawl is a wrap about 60 inches long that is knitted or crocheted with prayer for the person who receives it. Chaplain, Patti Maguire, has been doing her good work and distributing prayer shawls. She says she is almost out, however. So, those of you who do this ministry of comfort and prayer please consider starting another shawl. Shawls may be knit, crocheted or quilted and should be done in prayer for the needs of the person to receive it or since we often do not know who will get a shawl, prayers are often general in nature as we work. In addition to congregational use, the ELCA Church wide Assembly this summer has called for prayer shawls for use while delegates prayerfully consider votes or on-going debate. At least three members and one friend will be making or have made shawls for that purpose. Shawl Ministry is a quiet but rewarding ministry that is unseen by most of us unless we are given this reminder of the love of God and of Gloria Dei. Questions about this can be directed to Chaplain Patti or to Carol Uecker (525-4173). (If you need guidance on the size of the shawl, or pattern ideas these ladies can also help in this area.)
Shawls are given to those members who are going through life changes such as moving to assistive living, illness, death of a family member or a bout of depression. If you want more information about shawl ministry go to www.shawlministry.com.
