FREE TAX HELP FOR LOW AND MIDDLE-INCOME TAX PAYERS
AT GLORIA DEI LUTHERAN CHURCH
Available during the tax season only. Further information will be available in 2009.
Gloria Dei Member, Tom Uecker is a volunteer with the AARP Tax-Aide program. There are several sites in Duluth, and Tom has opened a site at Gloria Dei. The tax site can e-file state and federal returns. Those who chose to direct deposit refunds into a checking or savings account often receive their refunds within 1-2 weeks. Rent rebates can also be filed at this site, and this year almost everyone will qualify for a federal telephone excise tax credit. Also, Child Tax Credits and Earned Income Credits often result in refunds for lower income taxpayers.GOOD THINGS TO BRING: ID, social security cards, birth dates, income statements (wages, interest, retirement, SSI, MFIP, SSI, SSA, etc.), education expenses, daycare information, Certificate of Rent Paid from your landlord, and last year’s tax return if you have it.
TAX TOTALS ARE IN - We prepared and filed 580 returns for 2007 and 20 more 2006 & older ones. Each of these usually was for both Federal and State.About 2/3for rent rebate or property tax rebates well.We e-filed all of the 2007 returns, but the previous years had to mailed. The total refunds for the 2007 returns, including MN, US & Rent/Property tax rebates was$552,000.Since our filings also qualified most of these for the new Stimulus Payments, this added an additional $150,00+ to the total. These two totals don't include the prior year refunds we filed for. We were at CHUM, LightHouse for the Blind, AEOA, and Gloria Dei. - From Paul Glaeseman of Kenwood Lutheran Church who coordinated the CHUM tax program. Tom Uecker was the volunteer tax preparer at Gloria Dei from January to April, and Sharon Stenberg provided hospitality to guests for the free tax service. Many thanks!
