February 26 was Bold Women’s Day, it was the day when we honored women selected this year who have acted boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ. This year we have chosen Lubov Willms and Mona Wold to honor. Also we have chosen to celebrate women who faithfully demonstrate a different kind of bold; a quieter kind of bold that sometimes goes unnoticed. For example, we’re considering Moms who faithfully bring their children to Sunday School, and nourish them spiritually in many ways. The many women who visit or bring communion to shut- ins or who serve coffee regularly at worship and fellowship gatherings at King Manor or St. Anne’s. Many bold women are involved in serving at the monthly Community Breakfast, act as Lay Readers or Assisting Ministers. And remember the faithful members of Altar Guild who regularly prepare the altar for worship services and communion. Many women boldly create craft and baked goods for the Fall Fair or work there.

Lubov Willms was selected to be honored as a Bold Woman because of the many areas she has helped with ministry at Gloria Dei. Last year she participated in the Crop Walk to raise money to fight hunger. She has willingly assisted the Women’s Group in the kitchen, at the Fall Fair, and various times throughout the year. Two years ago she was part of Gloria Dei’s trip to Russia and assisted with the subsequent presentation at Adult Forum. She has shared her musical talents on the violin for worship and at programs. She has also served as an assisting minister and a lay reader at worship services. She is truly a Bold Young Woman.

WELCA NEWS

Thank You again for participating in our Spring Brunch in March. With your able hands and willing spirits, we enjoyed a lovely meal amid creative decorations, were entertained by several of our young musicians, took part in the fun silent auction, and had opportunity for relaxed fellowship. Good job, everyone!

The NE Minnesota Synod Summer Gathering of Women of the ELCA is scheduled to meet June 8 & 9 at UMD. The theme for this year’s 25th Anniversary of the Women’s group will be “Gathering in Jesus’ name, yesterday, today, forever.”   Please consider attending as a visitor to take part in this inspiring, enjoyable opportunity to experience great worship, great music, and great fellowship.

School Kits are the emphasis for the in-kind donations to Lutheran World Relief this year. School Kits contain:

Four 70 sheet notebooks, wide or college ruled

One 30-centimeter ruler, or a ruler with centimeters on one side and inches on the other

One pencil sharpener

One blunt scissors (safety scissors with embedded steel blades work well)

One 2 ½ inch eraser

Five unsharpened #2 pencils with erasers

Five ballpoint pens (NO gel ink), secured with a rubber band

One box of 16 - 24 count crayons

One sturdy drawstring backpack - style cloth bag, approx. 14" x 17" with shoulder straps

(NO standard backpacks)

You may donate completed kits, individual items to fill school kits, or money for the purchase of these items.
